Collection consists primarily of the business and political correspondence, 1762-1788, of Thomas Adams (1730-1788), merchant of Richmond, Va., and London, Eng., member of the United States Continental Congress, and postwar resident of Augusta County, Va., concerning the tobacco trade and colonial and Revolutionary-era politics and government, and including correspondence with Thomas Jefferson and Philip Mazzei. Also, includes scattered materials of other Adams family members in England and Virginia.
